Tory Lanez has always been deeply connected to Toronto and its culture, and “Hasty Market” became a moment where he put that connection on full display. The song, off Tory’s newest album “Made You Think I Was Gone …But,” features an official video shot primarily in black and white with carefully placed pops of colour throughout. The nearly ten-minute visual brought together some of the most recognizable names and respected figures connected to Toronto’s music and cultural scene, creating a rare moment where so many different parts of the city were represented together. It felt intentional. These were artists, tastemakers, media personalities and cultural figures who have each made an impact in their own way, and Tory gave them all a moment to be seen together while putting Toronto at the centre of the story.

It begins with a message directly addressing one of the most familiar Toronto music video clichés: the CN Tower. “This video features no images of the CN Tower.” Instead of relying on the landmark to tell the audience that this is Toronto, “Hasty Market” makes the people the landmark. The neighbourhoods, the faces, the streets and the raw reality of the city take centre stage. The black-and-white cinematography, broken up by selective flashes of colour, gives the visual a distinct look while keeping the focus on the people and places that make Toronto what it is.

The video features Vibe and SiriusXM’s Mastermind, KOTD’s Gully TK and Organik, Rappers: Roy Woods, Rich Kidd, Pressa, Big Lean, R.O.Z, Casper TNG, and AR Paisley, alongside countless additional well known Toronto cultural figures. R.O.Z makes a strong cameo appearance, as well as his EMB chains being prominently featured in one of the video’s colour-pop moments. Seeing so many established Toronto names in the same visual was significant. People from different neighbourhoods, backgrounds and different parts of the city’s music culture were brought together for something bigger than themselves. The focus wasn’t on where anyone came from or the differences between them, but on the culture they all helped build and the city they represent. Tory is being recognized and hailed for creating that moment, bringing together some of Toronto’s most recognizable artists, tastemakers and cultural figures and giving them one shared platform to represent the city on a much bigger stage.

The video was recorded and edited by legendary Toronto videographer Zac Facts, another respected name from the city’s creative community. With so many recognizable figures brought together, “Hasty Market” became more than a music video. It truly captured Toronto culture and showed the people behind it. More than anything, it felt like a moment of giving the people who helped shape Toronto’s culture their flowers, bringing them together to celebrate the city, its sound and the people who made it what it is today.
